It appears that 2018 is going to be the biggest box office year of all time. Considering we’ve gotten juggernaut films such as Black Panther, Infinity War, and Incredibles 2 even joining the $1 billion club. As the summer is coming to a close, these past couple weeks along with the rest of the year is a good spot for smaller films. Some of these films pay off, where some doesn’t. One of the few films to be greatly profitable is Crazy Rich Asians.
This film is getting people in the seats and even having a rewatchable factor. Going in its fourth week, Crazy Rich Asians took the lead for the third weekend in a row with only a near 15% drop since its debut (which is something unheard of by the way).
Last week my prediction for this film was it would make at least $25 million over the course of the four-day weekend. However, once again, I was around $3 million short for its $28.5 million total. As amazing as this film has been doing, it’s doubtful it will stay in the lead long, considering other films coming out including next weeks The Predator.
What’s also interesting is that Operation Finale starring Oscar Isaac brought in $7.8 million which put the film in the number 4 slot. Although it debuted around expectations, it’s unclear whether it’ll hold on to the top 5 although it may even be an Oscar contender.
Labor Day Box Office Results:
‘Crazy Rich Asians’ – $28.5 Million
‘The Meg’ – $13.8 Million
‘Mission Impossible: Fallout’ – $9.3 Million
